Wheels with larger diameters, such as the 29" and the 27,5" require thru-axle type quick release to maintain an acceptable level of riding precision. Older quick release with 5mm axles are no longer sufficient to produce this required standard. Up until when all bikes feature QR15 thru-axle forks and X-12 thru-axle frames, it is necessary to substitute the thin traditional quick release with those that feature a larger diameter: 9mm front and 10mm rear, which fit all forks and frames with slotted drop-outs. Hubs should be modified with 9mm front and 10mm rear caps.
